David Moyes Confident in Lucas Paqueta: West Ham Manager Backs Midfielder Amid Investigation
West Ham United’s manager, David Moyes, expressed unwavering confidence in Brazil midfielder Lucas Paqueta, emphasizing that there was “never any doubt” about his inclusion in the squad for the 3-1 victory against Chelsea.
The 25-year-old player is currently under investigation by the Football Association for potential breaches of betting rules. This situation has reportedly impacted his anticipated move to Manchester City, leading to a temporary hold on the transfer.
Despite these circumstances, Paqueta showcased his prowess against Chelsea and even secured the win by netting a late penalty.
Moyes commented, “He’s a solid and tough character, so no problems.”
The manager further commended Paqueta’s performance, highlighting the support he received from the crowd. Moyes remarked, “I thought 65,000 people stood to their feet and applauded him the whole game because of what he did. His performance was very, very good, especially in the second half. He’s just a very good player.”
Paqueta, who is in his second season with West Ham, joined the club from Lyon last summer for a club-record fee potentially exceeding £50 million.
After scoring the decisive goal, Paqueta was jubilantly embraced by his teammates. However, he appeared to experience cramps after the final whistle.
Moyes downplayed the notion of a weight lifted from Paqueta’s shoulders, instead emphasizing his stellar performance. He stated, “It’s not a big weight off his shoulder, it’s just a terrific performance. He played really, really well.”
